Commuters crowd a train station in Mumbai. MSNBC reported that 12 million people live in Mumbai, which means it is the city in India with the most people. According to the BBC, in less than 20 years, India could become the most populated country in the world, surpassing China.

The United Nations predicts that the global population will reach 9 billion people within the next 40 years and will be larger than 10 billion people by 2100. According to the U.S. Census, the world population is currently around 7.03 billion. The additional people that will rapidly start to populate the planet in the coming generations could provide an added strain on the Earth’s resources and climate.
